Symbolism

SHIELD

The shield is colored green to represent the lush landscape of Biak Island, which was invaded by Allied Forces in May 1944. The blue cross symbolizes Boatswains Mate First Class Richard T. Snyder as part of Navy Beach Party #6, SEVENTH Amphibious Force, standing ready to receive amphibious landing craft on the shores. The saltire is outlined with a thin white border, much like the stripes on the ribbon of the Silver Star which Snyder was awarded for his valor during an amphibious assault. The four flaming grenades symbolize Snyders gallantry in action when he procured a weapon and hand grenades and subsequently killed four Japanese troops, thereby eliminating the enemy resistance. The Silver Star was awarded to Snyder for ''conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action against the enemy during the invasion of Biak Island on May 27, 1944.''

CREST

The bow doors of Snyders former unit, LST-168, are open to denote the flow of men and arms brought to the beaches. The setting sun of the 41st Infantry Division patch behind highlights the 12,000 troops Snyder assisted in landing, bringing with them 12 M-4 Sherman tanks, 29 field guns, 500 vehicles and 2,400 tons of supplies in a single day. Snyder defeated enemy resistance and, through his actions, made possible the safe landing of personnel and equipment onto the exposed beach.

SUPPORTERS

The crossed anchors represent the insignia of a Boatswains Mate. Six stars on the anchor crowns depict the six bronze stars on Snyders campaign medals, which included the American Campaign Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, the Philippine Liberation Medal, a Letter of Commendation from General MacArthur for his actions in the Admiralty Islands landings, and the Good Conduct Medal.

MOTTO

The cutters motto, NEVER YIELD, is inscribed on the stocks of the anchors in dark blue. The color blue symbolizes taking action.

The coat of arms as blazoned in full color on a white disc within a Cobalt Blue designation band, edged with a Gold roped border and bearing the name USCGC RICHARD SNYDER at top and
WPC 1127 at base, all Gold.
